Greetings!!! On March 19, 2005 the RGV chapter held a tea
party at the Vannie E. Cook Jr Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen.
Unfortunately for me I did not realize not only was it Spring Break but
the annual livestock show and rodeo was going on. Only one patient
showed up, which was a bit odd for me considering I have never had only
one patient there with 12 queens and two clowns!!! She honestly felt
like a princess. Girls had brought boas, candy bags, gift bags and we
even raffled off a candy bouquet.

To help with the
duties of the party were Miss Rio Grande Valley USA, Vanessa Segovia,
Miss Rio Grande Valley Teen USA , Cassidy Klein, Miss Alamo Princess
Mona Fliegel and Miss Alamo, and Miss Mission Amanda Garcia. The
ladies from Clinique were once again so nice as to provide us with their
services from the littles girls make up and nail polishes along with the
new
scent from Clinique called Clinque Heart. We started off by painting the
patients finger nails and toe nails because
the Clinique reps were a little late but once they arrived we went on
the put on make up, in fact some of the patients became brave and
decided to do the make up of our guests, including myself. We later
ordered pizza from Pizza Hut after that we cut the cake then decided to
crown our girls since it was around their nap time. For the ones who
were not cranky and could handle another hour or so we play Bingo. Over
all it was a success. I was thrilled to see more patients there this
time than last time, I am sure that once the word gets around the clinic
on how much fun we had the next one will be an even bigger success.

On August 4, 2004
the QFAD Rio Grande Valley chapter held its second party of the year at
the Vannie E Cook Jr Cancer and Hematology Clinic. There were several
queens and several patients.
The party was held
from 2 pm until 4 pm. It was during the week so we had many patients
come through. The girls made earrings, bracelets, and picture frames
for their photos. |
