| Thank you for your interest in QFAD!
The organization's structure is based on a local
director managing a chapter for a specified facility and reporting to
the central office. Local directors are responsible for contacting the
appropriate associate at the assigned facility, acquiring donations for
each party, recruiting volunteers, and maintaining communication with
the central office. To apply for directorship, submit the listed
materials on the
Application page.
Queen for a Day hosts parties at hospitals
with pediatric oncology/cancer units or out-patient clinics. The parties
must include a set-up for make-up application and painting nails. Also,
each patient is given her own rhinestone tiara. A Polaroid picture is
taken of each girl for her to take home. Some chapters have added
crafts, such as frame-decorating or designing a page for the chapter
memory album, to give the patients something to do while waiting, but
this is not mandatory. It is encouraged to have a pageant titleholder
present at the parties for pictures and to crown the girls. The central
office can offer assistance in finding titleholders and supplying tiaras
if the local chapter is not able to do so.
Potential directors/volunteers are not
required to have pageant experience.
The
Chapter Locations page
lists hospitals/areas where chapters are already established.
To donate, please contact the central office at
JEdwards@qfad.org.
Our main needs are tiaras, funds, and new chapters. Due to the age
restrictions on hospital visitations, directors must be at least 21
years of age and volunteers within a chapter must be at least 16. If you
do not meet the age requirement or are not able to fulfill the
responsibilities of a chapter director, here are a few ways you can
still help:
·
Organize a tiara drive. Contact your pageant
friends to donate their tiaras or ask to make an announcement at an
upcoming competition. Lead by example and donate your own tiaras.
Brochures can be provided to pass out at competitions, conferences, or
events to educate potential donors of Queen for a Day's activities. One
extraordinary volunteer used her birthday party as an opportunity by
asking friends to bring tiaras or monetary donations to the party.
·
Organize a fund-raiser or friend-raiser. Who
doesn't like to party? Host a party at your home and invite your friends
for a casual dinner. Introduce them to Queen for a Day. Use the
opportunity to present the need for donations and ask friends to join
you in supporting or ask for support in other ways. Setting up a table
at a local festival, conference, or community event is a great way to
promote the organization and raise money by selling raffle tickets,
selling a product, or hosting an auction. Speaking of auctions, what
about Ebay?! If you are already part of a community group like Kiwanis,
Junior League, etc, present Queen for a Day as a potential beneficiary
of the group's activities and/or as a group project.
·
Donate talents and resources. Do you design
websites as a career? Own a business that could promote the
organization's mission? Are you well-connected in your community? Do you
know of a foundation or corporation that supports similar causes? Do you
like book-keeping, public relations or event-planning? Are you
relentless at asking for sponsorship? If you're not sure if your
resources are useful, ask us! If you've heard of or know of a
grant-making foundation that supports children's causes and/or cancer
causes, let us know and we can apply for a grant. Also, check with your
employer for which causes the company supports. Most companies have a
employee-matching program where they match the donations of their
employees. Your donation could have a double impact!
·
Board of Directors. The national office is
developing a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board to assist in
directing the growth and expansion. Individuals do not need to be in a
specific area to serve as a Board member or in an advisory position.
Another option is to serve on a committee.
·
Products or services. The opportunity for
cause-related marketing is enormous. Nearly anything can be sold to
benefit a non-profit. Just advertise that the profits (or a portion of
profits) support Queen for a Day. Most consumers are drawn to social
responsibility and want to know they can help others while they shop.
You can sell your own product or choose from our current merchandise.
·
Online social networks. Join us on
Facebook or Myspace and
help us build our newsletter mailing list. The more people we can reach,
the more kids we can touch! Invite friends, forward the newsletter,
challenge your friends to match your donation or get creative to offer
something that hasn't been done before!
