On February 16th,
2008, five queens from the National American Miss Pageant system
volunteered at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Green Bay Wisconsin for the
Queen for a Day volunteer organization. Volunteers included; Autumn
Brown – Miss Wisconsin 2007, Alina Gur – Miss Wisconsin Preteen 2007,
Alyssa Quinn- Miss Wisconsin Junior Teen Cover Girl 2007, Felicia Holmes
– Miss Wisconsin Princess Cover Girl 2007, and Lauren McLester Davis –
National Cover Miss 2007-2008.
A total of 7 young
ladies showed up on that Saturday to spend time with their newfound
friends, they called us “princesses”. We spent the first hour getting to
know the girls individually. The girls spent the first half hour making
princess pictures and door hangers for their rooms. We then had each
girl choose a tiara off the table, and they were crowned by one of the
National American Miss Queens.
After being
crowned each girl received a manicure as well as a bouquet of red roses
and a bright pink boa. We took lots of group pictures. After the
princess “makeover” session it was time for our feast. The girls snacked
on cheese, crackers, sausage, cookies and fruit punch while they
finished up their crafts.
It wasn’t long
before they were all running and playing with their new crowns and
wands. They had so much energy it was amazing and really fun to watch.
Towards the end of our Queen for a Day party each new queen received a
gift bag full of goodies thanks to our generous queens and sponsors.
Each new queen received her crown, boa, wand, headband, flowers,
stickers, body wash, a sign and door hanger for her room, a princess
crown bag, a pink cap for cancer hat from the Green Bay Gamblers, and a
Fairy Barbie complete with a DVD game.
We had so much fun
throwing our first Queen for a Day Party in Green Bay Wisconsin and we
can’t wait to do one again soon!
